DRESSING WELL
The object of dressing well is fourfold. First and foremost, wear clothing that it flattering in fit, color and style. Second, wear clothing appropriate to the occasion. Third, have your clothing enhance YOU, not be showcase items that call too much attention to themselves, and distract from your natural beauty and presence. Finally fourth, dress to suit your personality.

A word on PROPORTION AND FIT
Accent the positive and minimize the negative. There is nothing wrong with you or your figure type. Very few people have that perfectly proportioned body. Most of us have some variations such as a short waist, heavy thighs, big stomach, etc. This is the human condition. We are not all fashion models, but with a little knowledge about what to look for to flatter your figure type, you can hide minor figure problems.
Here are a FEW TIPS

To HIDE LARGE HIPS wear:

  • loose belts or a dropped belt on a turtleneck, overblouse, or simple dress
  • stitched down pleats
  • jackets that come to your beneath your hips
  • avoid horizontal detail at hip level such as contrasting pockets

To WIDEN NARROW SHOULDERS wear:

  • shoulder pads
  • dropped shoulder seams
  • wide necklines
  • detail at shoulders such as epaulets, gathering, or pleats

To MINIMIZE WIDE SHOULDERS wear:

  • raglan sleeves
  • no dropped shoulders
  • no shoulder pads
  • no extra detail at shoulder level

To BALANCE A SHORT WAIST wear:

  • no waistband
  • belts no wider than 1 inch
  • belts the same color as your top
  • dropped belts
  • dropped waists

To BALANCE A LONG WAIST wear:

  • wide belts
  • belts the same color as below the waist
  • empire and high rise waists
