DISEASES OF THE MACULA

Educates the lay person about macular disease and ways to best cope. Macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss in persons over age 55, although younger persons can also be afflicted. The macula is the central part of the eye's retina and is responsible for central vision. Diseases of the macula affect this particular area. Since peripheral vision remains unaffected, macular disease will never cause total blindness.
