TURTLE EXCLUDER DEVICES (TEDS):SAFEGUARDING SHRIMP FISHERIES AND ENDANGERED SEA TURTLES
For over 150 million years sea turtles have roamed the marine environment. But these once abundant creatures may soon be gone forever. It is estimated that more than 155,000 turtles drown every year in the nets of commercial shrimp trawling vessels of over 80 nations. Fortunately there is a simple, inexpensive and highly effective device that prevents turtles from drowning. Turtle Excluder Devices (TED's) have been proven to be 97 percent effective at releasing turtles without reducing shrimp catch significantly. "Turtle Excluder Devices" is produced by Steve Cowan. A Spanish version is available.
